CMS Dubai’s new appointments

CMS announced that Slava Kiryushin has been appointed to its Infrastructure, Construction and Energy (ICE) Disputes team in Dubai and Rob Flaws to its TMT practice.

Kiryushin re-joins the firm from oil giant Lukoil, where he was general counsel for the MENA region. In his former role, Kiryushin focused on dispute resolution of all major oil & gas and infrastructure projects in the Middle East with a combined value of over USD2 billion.

Kiryushin has extensive experience advising on contentious energy, construction and infrastructure matters throughout the Middle East and African region. He is particularly knowledgeable in high value contracts and regularly advises on all types of dispute resolution, focusing on dispute avoidance and international arbitration (ad hoc & institutional including DIAC, ICC, LCIA, SCC and UNCITRAL). Kiryushin has been based in Dubai for five years and sits as an arbitrator (sole and party-appointed). He is also a member of a number of international arbitration centres (LCIA, ICC, SCC, DIAC) and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Dubai-based Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) specialist Rob Flaws has been brought in to head the newly-formed TMT practice in Dubai, and joins from DLA Piper Middle East where he was a senior legal consultant. Flaws was previously a TMT associate at CMS in London from 2007 to 2010. He is joined by corporate associate Chloe Player from Trowers & Hamlins.

Flaws is a seasoned TMT practitioner and advises clients across a broad range of TMT issues including intellectual property and data privacy matters with particular focus on technology and commercial transactions and the licensing and protection of intellectual property rights.

He has over 10 years of international legal experience in the TMT sector and has been practising in the Middle East since 2011 where he has acted on a number of high profile, business critical IT & telecoms projects. Flaws has particular expertise in the technology space, including on the delivery of managed services, outsourcing and complex technology and network related transactions. As part of his technology focus he has worked with numerous clients in the FinTech space helping in the development of e-payment and mobile money systems and advising clients on their use of cryptocurrencies and Blockchain. He also has a strong media industry background, having previously worked as an international lawyer for Paramount Pictures.
