Afridi & Angell’s new managing partner

Afridi & Angell has announced that Bashir Ahmed has been elected as the new managing partner effective November 1, 2016. Ahmed succeeds Amjad Ali Khan who has overseen the firm’s growth for over a decade.

A veteran in the UAE legal market, Ahmed is the fourth managing partner of the firm in its over 40 years’ history. He joined Afridi & Angell as an associate in 1988 and became a partner in 1993. Like his predecessor managing partners, Ali Afridi, C. Chakradaran and Amjad Ali Khan, Ahmed has spent the majority of his career in the UAE at Afridi & Angell.

Ahmed has played a key leadership role for many years including as head of the firm’s Corporate/M&A and Shipping practice groups. A multi-specialist practitioner, Ahmed advises on banking, corporate and contentious matters. In addition to his new role as managing partner, Ahmed will continue to provide skilled advice and exceptional service to clients.

Outgoing managing partner Amjad Ali Khan commented, “I welcome and congratulate Bashir whose election is a testament of and a tribute to his exceptional skills, professionalism, and personal empathy.” To ensure a smooth transition, Khan will continue to be associated with the firm as senior consultant.
